That early spark never faded—it grew into a deep passion for game development.\nAfter spending more than a decade at a major video game company in a non-development role, I finally took the leap to start building my own games. Today, I’m working on Drone Alone: Astro Miner — a passion project inspired by a time in my life when I felt the pull to break free from routine and chase something more adventurous.\nAbout Helskor Games\r#\rIn late 2018, I made a major career shift and left Blizzard Entertainment to pursue my dream of making my own games again. By then, I had become quite familiar with Unreal Engine 4 and decided to revive a project I had started back in 2014; a story about a solitary drone in deep space, torn between duty and a growing need to understand why it’s alone.\nThat project grew into Drone Alone Astro Miner, and it’s what I’m focused on today. I’ve never felt more energized or motivated in my work. Of course, there are frustrating days — that’s part of the process. But the satisfaction of solving problems or hitting a new milestone is like nothing I’ve experienced before.\nCurrent Project\r#\rWhat if you woke up in a familiar world but you’ve never been there before? As a freshly assembled mining drone, your employer expects you to get straight to work - no questions asked. Will you follow your programming and carry out your duties, or break routine and uncover the mysteries around the solar system? Set in a distant future, Drone Alone Astro Miner is a contemplative space game where you mine ore, explore the space, and master your role — or ignore your mission and search for answers to the universe’s deeper questions. The choice is yours: stick to the comfort of routine, or venture into the unknown.\nLike what you see, want to help out?\r#\rBeing a solo developer has its ups and downs, but your support can make a big difference. Like many kids, video games played a big role in my early years. When I got an Amiga 500, I became fascinated with programming and started creating simple text-based dungeon crawlers.\nAs a teenager, I briefly explored 3D animation before going on to study Computer Science and Astrophysics at university. During that time, I significantly improved my programming skills and reignited my passion for game development.\nA few months after graduating, I was offered an incredible opportunity to work at Blizzard Entertainment as a Game Master. While it wasn’t a development role, it was too exciting to pass up. Over the years, I moved into management. Though the Game Master team occasionally interacted with developers, I felt myself drifting away from what I truly loved—creating games.\nOver time, I experimented with everything from building my own game engine to using Microsoft XNA, Unity, and Unreal Engine 3 and 4. Each experience deepened my understanding of how games are made, though I never quite completed a project—largely due to increasing responsibilities at work.\nIn late 2018, I made a major career shift: I left Blizzard to focus on developing my own games. By then, I was already familiar with Unreal Engine 4 and decided to reboot a personal project I began in 2014: Drone Alone, a story about a solitary drone in space, torn between it\u0026rsquo;s task and the search for meaning.\nToday, Drone Alone: Astro Miner is my full-time focus, and I’ve never felt more energized. Every day brings new challenges and frustrations, but also the unmatched satisfaction of solving problems and reaching milestones.
